Dear Boardgamers, A long time ago I created the computer game Achoir, a re-creation and tribute to Sid Sackson's classic boardgame, Acquire. I mostly made it for myself, but I knew others would like it as well, and so I made it available here. I don't know how many people have played it, but every once in a while I'll get email from users. Usually it's to ask why the iOS and Android versions are no longer available. Sometimes it's to ask for features. And sometimes, it's to ask for the source code. It's hard to say why Achoir was delisted from iOS/Android, but I suspect it was due to a simple lack of maintenance. As for features, unfortunately, I have a day job, and so new feature work is unlikely to ever happen. And as for the source...well, at least I can help you there! As of today, I am submitting the source code for Achoir to the public domain. Although the audience for this is small, I hope those who are interested in this sort of thing find value in it. I know I've benefited greatly from others who have shared their code. In my small way I hope this pays it forward. Lastly, I'll note that in addition to releasing Achoir's source, I'm also releasing the PC version of The Manhattan Project as well as its source. You can get both here. |

Enjoy and happy gaming! - Mark F. Domowicz - January 23, 2021 |
Achoir is an implementation of the Sid Sackson masterpiece board game, Acquire. Achoir is a stock market simulation in which players found new corporations, grow and buy stock in existing corporations, and compete to have the largest amounts of stock in corporations that get acquired. Achoir supports three modes of play: |
1. Single player against AI opponents. 2. Pass-n-play multi-player against human and AI opponents. 3. Online networked multi-player against human and AI opponents. |
